For Your Healing Pleasure

We are so excited to unveil the details of UPC’s inaugural event. @empresskarenmrose of @sacredvibesapothecary will be there to share her invaluable wisdom and transformational energy with us (which is such an incredible gift), along with @briellewrites of @opialiterary and @nyotanayo of @swdythebronx. We are so grateful to be able to partner with these amazing beings and bring this kind of pleasure-focused healing to our uptown neighbors. We can’t WAIT to see you there! Drop us a ‘’ or two (or 3!) if you’ll be bringing your magic to the table (and the dancefloor AND the writer’s desk) that night. And don’t forget to click the link in our bio to reserve your spot!

Please keep in mind that this event is #POCfocused. All are welcome, but we expect that fact to be respected and celebrated.

Who Heals the Healer: The Convergence

healer.jpg

"For those who feel too much, may you guard your position as holy."

INTENTION
As tensions rise, so has the need for more healers. The waymakers, the agents of change, the ones armed with compassion.

But how many folks who step into this work have become burnt out or hurt along the way? What kind of long-term impact can we have if we don’t share the same healing methods we give to others with ourselves? How can we be a support system for others without depleting ourselves? How can we develop tools to thrive as opposed to just surviving? Who heals the healer?

A large scale conference of the event series, the intention of the convergence is to cultivate an ecosystem rooted in community care for wellness, social justice and healing practitioners who can hold space for one another as they continue to hold space for community. The curated techniques and solutions from this series will be shared widely in the form of a publication in 2018.

DETAILS
When: Saturday, May 12, 2018 from 10am-5pm
Where: Mayday Space, 176 St. Nicholas Avenue, Brooklyn, NY 11237

BAE: WOMAN

I am vending my own hot sauce, #wangsauce for the first time tonight 8pm @lot45bushwick! Come by and support women run businesses and an amazing line up of DJs!

This month March, the collective BAE gathers again!
To celebrate relationships, before anything else.
Feminine + Masculine Energy: the existence of both inside us and the fusion of both in our creativity.

<BAE presents W☯MAN>

BAE // wo:man is an intentional and interactive lineup of female/female and female/male collaborations. Live music duos, live art and movement, and collaborative artisanship. A collection of some of the most exciting projects linked across the New York art and business world.

BAE is at its heart a celebration of the Divine Feminine. It’s also a realization, acknowledgement, and appreciation of the way in which the Divine Feminine articulates, expresses, and co-creates with the Divine Masculine. It’s a “man’s world” in many ways; but at the beginning and the end of it all: it’s a Woman’s Universe.

The divine male and female energies are meant to complement one another, working together harmoniously in a sacred dance of divine unity. Embracing both in their authenticity is essential for spiritual evolution. Cultures that honor this union are incredibly connected to the natural flow and are blessed with bountiful health and immeasurable wealth. Their creative output is high and their harmful tendencies are low.

BAE is a unique collective space for experiencing this union. This month, we want to explore and celebrate not just how women are empowered and empower one another, but how we also interplay with men in our mixed world -- in a way that honors, respects, and amplifies our power. This is also an open forum and experience and call for other fluid expressions of our chemical, spiritual, metaphysical makeup.

feminine and masculine elements coexist within each of us. The intermingling, the playfulness, the creativity, the fluidity, the balance.

WE ARE IT ALL, before anything else ♥

"w4w" @dislcaimergallery

"w4w" Work by Annie Rose
Curated by Sarah Wang

Opening Reception March 18th 2017, 7-11pm
Show on display from March 12th - April 8th

“w4w “ is a multimedia project consisting of handwritten drawings, digital canvases, and video that investigate the women for women “missed connections” section of Craigslist.com. These online personals are explored as a site of isolation and hyper visibility as seen through the lens of queer women’s relationships and desires. A womancentric queer existence is by nature an isolating and dissociative experience. Queer women live on the intersection of misogyny and homophobia, creating an existence that is both invisible and hyper visible; one feels both completely erased as well as constantly watched. The w4w “Missed Connections” demonstrates the isolation and alienation that many queer women feel. Malamet meditates on these digital ads by carefully copying them by hand. This process illustrates her desire to connect with other queer women, though the nature of reaching out to a missed connection seems almost an unfathomable distance. Included in this exhibit is a manipulated and re-appropriated version of t.A.T.u’s music video for their song “All The Things She Said.” Quotes from the featured Craigslist ads are interspersed throughout. Through this reimagining, these ephemeral objects are proposed as roots of desire, awakening, and trauma for queer women coming of age in the early 2000s.

Annie Rose Malamet is an educator, artist, and writer. In 2015 she received her MFA from The School of Visual Arts. Currently, she teaches full time at BRIC Arts Media in Downtown Brooklyn. As a curator, her exhibit "Fatter IRL" showcased the work of fat artists and was featured in The Huffington Post, Out Magazine, Nylon Magazine, Vice, and Paper Magazine. Her own visual work has been featured in Hyperallergic and Canadian Art. She lives with her girlfriend in Brooklyn, surrounded by lesbian literature and year round Halloween decorations.
